Litecoin is a cryptocurrency first mined on December 7, 2011. According to International Business Times, Litecoin is "designed intended to be more efficiently mined and faster to conduct transactions in" than Bitcoin.[1] In January 2014, Litecoin was the most valuable cryptocurrency next to Bitcoin, trading around $25. Litecoin has been called "the silver to bitcoin’s gold".[1]
