Mastercoin is a digital currency, launched in July 2013. Rather than operating independently, Mastercoin is "built on top of the Bitcoin 'rails'".[1] By February 2014, it had become the seventh largest digital currency, with a market cap of approximately $38 million.[1]

In February 2014, Mastercoin held an "open call" for projects totaling $30 million in exchange for part of the 150,000 that were scheduled to be released.[1]
